Currently President of Entertainment Equipment Corporation, which he launched in 1988, EEC sells, installs, and services projection, sound, and related equipment to movie theaters, educational institutions, and corporations.
Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront of cinema technology. Working, for example, with Texas Instruments Corporation, the Boeing Company, and the major movie studios to spearhead the industry’s transition to digital presentation and distribution with the development of digital cinema and was instrumental in the success of the first commercial release of a digitally presented feature film – Star Wars: Attack of the Clones in 2002.
In 2002, he founded Cinema Training Central – offering the first and only training programs devoted to the cinema exhibition industry. In 2009 he co-founded the Arboreal Group - an environmental consultancy which transforms existing movie theaters into environmentally sustainable structures through the implementation of a compliance and certification process. Arboreal was conceived and developed based upon the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Rating System.
Over his career, he gained extensive domestic and international experience – living and working in Boston, Buffalo, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Pittsburgh, and holding assignments in Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Singapore, Tokyo, and throughout Central America .
Prior to launching EEC, he had a successful career at the Mellon Bank (now BNY Mellon) where he attained the position of Senior Vice President. He also functioned as the Chief Financial Officer of BNY Mellon International, being responsible for all financial activities at the Bank’s Wall Street operation. Previous to Mellon Bank, he worked as a Corporate Analyst for the Itek Corporation (now part of the General Dynamics Corporation) which developed and manufactured high-tech optical systems and products used by the U.S. Military and NASA. Prior to Itek, he worked as a Financial Analyst for the United Brands Company in their Chiquita Food Division.
Mr. Lavorato has published numerous articles on the motion picture and media industries. His works have appeared in Film Journal International, BoxOffice Magazine, and Theatre World. He is currently a writer and editorial contributor to ScreenTrade magazine. He also authors two blogs: Cinema Mucho Gusto, which provides news, information, and commentary on the cinema industry and Fund-House - Your Business Launch Pad.
In 1978 he earned a Masters in International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Glendale, AZ. In 1973 a Masters in Business Administration from Suffolk University, Boston, MA and in 1971 a BA in Accounting from Suffolk University.
Currently Vice President of Man-D-Tec Incorporated, the global leader in elevator lighting and ventilation, he has a multi-faceted business background. An expert in continuous manufacturing process improvement strategies, he holds 9 U.S. Patents, numerous trademarks, and has extensive experience working with certification agencies, such as UL and CSA.
Additionally, he has significant experience in the music and live performance fields. He is Founder and CEO of several currently operating businesses including: Marx Entertainment Inc. and Drip Drop Records, LLC., which specialize in managing recording artists while providing branding strategies, bookings, music distribution, studio services, and live events promotions.
He is also a real estate broker and is licensed with the National Association of Realtors, the Arizona Association of Realtors, and the Scottsdale Area Association of Realtors.
In 2008 he earned a Masters in Business Administration from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Arizona State University in 2006, majoring in Mass Communication and Business, and graduating Summa Cum Laude.
While at ASU he was part of the Edson Student Entrepreneurship Initiative and took top honors over hundreds of applicants by developing Blue Banana Marketing, a company that assisted small and medium-sized businesses target their services and products to the millennial market.
He is very adept with social media marketing and has used all of the social platforms to market numerous products and services throughout his career.
